Log into Retail Operations and on the tree menu, open the Inventory Form View. In the toolbar, click the New Product icon to start entering a new item into inventory.

Work Order Service Items:

A work order service is distinguished apart from other inventory items by its' Inventory Type setting. When doing a work order at the POS, there are options to Add A Service or Add Parts to the order. When Add A Service is selected, only items set with the Inventory Type of Work Order Service will be listed to aid in filtering your selections. The Inventory Type is the first field in the form view, which if dropped down, will list the different types available, one of those being Work Order Service.

Note* There is also an option to set the type as Service, but this type will not display in the work order service list when doing a work order.

With the Inventory Type set to Work Order Service, fill in the rest of the required fields for selling a product (Product Code, Description, Department, Cost and Retail). New work order service items will immediately be available upon saving the item.

Work Order Parts:

The parts you sell within a work order do not have a special Inventory Type that distinguishes them apart from the rest of your inventory. The parts are standard inventory items, sold separately or used to repair an item in service. Because of this, it is recommended that when adding the parts to your inventory, you create a systematic numbering system for your part product codes or use a similiar description for each of your parts.

In the POS Work Order wizard, you have the option to look for parts by Part Number or by Description. To aid in pulling up your parts list to select from, you may want to begin the product code with "PART" or "P", or "WOP" for work order part or have the word "Part" in the description for each of your service parts. Let your associates know how you've set your parts and your quick way to bring them up on the work order.
