Whether an item is being returned to the store for resale or replacement, the return must be rung through the POS or processed with the portable scanner using the Return Merchandise activity in order to adjust the inventory correctly. To process a return at the Point of Sale with a sales receipt, after signing into the sale, scan the barcode located at the bottom of the original sales receipt.

An image of the original reciept will appear on the left with return options to the right. Either a specific product(s) can be returned or the entire sale. To select one or more products, make sure the Select Product(s) box is checked, then click the Next button. On the left, select the first product being returned. To the right, select whether that product is being returned back to inventory to resell or back to the supplier.

Upon selecting a return option (if going back to the supplier, a store reason will have to be selected before returning back to the return screen), the product will be set to Returned with the quantity on the left. At this point, another product can be selected to return or the return can be completed by clicking the Finish button.

The return product(s) will now be displayed at the sale screen as a negative amount and quantity.*Note that an item with either a Line or Receipt discount on the original sale will automatically carry that discount over on the return.

To return the entire sale, check off Entire Sale, select whether the item is going back into inventory or back to the supplier and click the Finish button. All items on the original sale receipt along with associated discounts will be brought back as a negative amount and quantity. (Return reasons for each returned item can be set in the Retail Operations Return Merchandise activity).

*Caution - For special activities such as Special Orders, Work Oders, Scuba Class or Trip signups and Rentals, returns should be done as a Cancellation in each specific activity to properly set the customer status, rather than run it as a standard return.
